What are Charts?

In Astrology, the main item is your chart. It is a map of the planets in the signs of the zodiac. Charts are cast based on an exact moment at an exact place on earth. Therefore, the moment you were born & the place you were born has a chart, & that is your “birth chart” or “natal chart”. By reading the chart of the heavens for the time & place of your birth, claim astrologers, they can know much about you. The positions of the planets in the actual star-based zodiac are taken & your “dashas” (predictive timeline) are arranged. Your Vedic chart will most likely reflect your actual life & your dashas are probably operating the way they ought to. The Vedic astrologer looks at these planets, signs & house placements in your chart & can “see” your persona, as well as life events & possibilities – both the nice & the bad times in your life. The dashas are then used to select “when” the events will unfold in your life & what can be done to improvise them.
Dashas give a greater predictive accuracy to Vedic astrology. These “planetary ruling periods,” which are distinctive to this process, give Vedic astrologers a device for exactly predicting the trends, changes & events in your life with brilliant precision. Therefore, Vedic astrologers are less limited to speaking about your general overall self & can get more deeply in to what is going to happen in your life.
Horoscope in Vedic astrology is arranged based on 12 divisions of zodiac which are known as the12 signs of zodiac. In the divisional charts each sign is further divided into number of equal parts. It is necessary to understand the importance of making and analyzing divisional charts for the purpose of making accurate predictions in Vedic astrology.

Each house of the birth chart denotes assorted significations. For example the significations of some of the houses are as under:
The Second House: Family, wealth, health of spouse, means of sustenance, right eye, speech, and art collection, Power of observation, jewellery, food, tongue, nose and teeth.
The Fourth House: Mother, relatives, conveyance, domestic environment, treasure, land, house, education, landed property, hidden treasure, chest, ornaments and clothes.
The Twelfth House: Expenditure, punishments, confinement, harm, donations given, losses due to marriage, fines paid, sexual enjoyment outside wedlock, contacting sexually transmitted diseases, weakness in sexual act, loss of wife and separation from own people.

Similarly, the significations of any house in a person’s horoscope can be looked into and given predictions depending on the same. It is eminent that the significations of each of the twelve houses cover almost all aspects of life. It means that even if one house in the horoscope is ill disposed the native could be deprived of health, wealth, education; property etc.
Each astrological text enumerates number of divisional charts. However these sixteen divisional charts are thought about relevant to the aspects of life & it is always said that a learned Vedic astrologer takes cognizance of these. These are known as sixteen Divisional charts or ‘Shodasvargas’.

General Principles used for Analyzing the Divisional Charts
Some basic ideas about divisional charts ought to be clearly understood before making use of these charts in making predictions. These are as under:
1. These charts are not independent charts like the ascendant charts. An event can happen only when there is a sign of the same in the ascendant chart. Event cannot be predicted based on the divisional chart alone.
2. To make out about any particular aspect of life, concerned house in the ascendant chart is to be examined in detail. This will include the planets associated with that house, the position of lord & the significator of that house. In case any event is indicated by examining that house, the same is to be confirmed through study of relevant divisional chart. If the event is not indicated by the study of concerned house, the study of relevant divisional chart may not serve any purpose.
3. A planet positioned in the same sign in both ascendant & divisional chart is named the ‘Vargottam Planet’. The results of vargottam planet are always lovely. However it is to be kept in mind that ascendant chart is indicative of the basic strength of a planet. Therefore if a planet is weak in the ascendant chart it cannot suddenly act in the above manner by being a vargottam.
4. A planet becomes powerful if it is exalted, situated in its own sign or possesses directional strength in the divisional charts.
5. In the divisional charts planets in the 4th, 7th & 10th houses give excellent results. They give lovely ends in the 5th, 9th & 11th houses, whereas 2nd is neutral in all divisional charts. 6. Any planet placed in 3rd, 8th and 12th houses in divisional charts may cause catastrophe to the relevant aspect of life when periods of such planets are under operation. Even exalted planets posited in these houses become powerless to give benefic results.
7. It is absolutely necessary for the ascendant of divisional chart to be strong if desires to enjoy aspect of life relevant to that divisional chart.
8. Beneficial planets on both sides of the ascendant in a divisional chart increase lovely effects of that aspect of life. Similarly malefic planets on both sides of ascendant deprive the native the lovely results of that aspect of life.
9. Principles of the main planet and the sub planet periods are also to be applied while analyzing the divisional charts.
10. The effects of the transit of planets are also judged in divisional charts.
11. A debilitated planet in divisional chart gives bad results concerning aspect of life indicated by that divisional chart in the coursework of operation period of that planet unless there is cancellation of debilitation of that planet. For example a debilitation planet in D9 may cause issues in marital relations, in D7 may cause unhappiness about children and in D24 may cause obstacles in schooling.
12. Any planet placed in the3rd and the 8th houses in any divisional chart causes death like effects in the coursework of the operation period of that planet. For example in D9 chart such planet may cause death of partner or divorce and in D10 chart it may cause loss of job or retirement or resignation from job
